Princess Leonor’s sister, Infanta Sofia celebrated her 16th birthday last Saturday, April 29, and although the Spanish royal family did not want to divulge many details of the celebration, some media outlets have managed to reveal how the party of the youngest daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia went.
Sofia, who has become one of the most beloved members of royalty, celebrated another year of life in a totally private celebration that was attended by her closest friends.
Infanta Sofia’s birthday party
According to the Spanish newspaper Informalia, the celebration of the Sweet 16 of the Infanta Sofia took place in the garden of the Zarzuela Palace.
Paloma Rocasolano, her grandmother, and mother of Queen Letizia was present as well as her aunt Telma Ortiz with her cousins, but it is unknown which members of the King’s family were invited to the snack. There was only one condition and that was not to carry a cell phone with them during the celebration to avoid leaks.
This birthday is especially significant because it is the last that the Infanta spends at home with her family. The youngest daughter of the King and Queen will go to live in Wales next September when she starts classes at UWC Atlantic College.
It has been classes at that institution that have prevented Princess Leonor from being at her sister’s birthday, as she is immersed in her final exams. Despite her notable absence, Sofia would have received congratulations from her older sister via Skype. The King and Queen’s daughters are very close, something that is reflected in each of their public appearances. It will be on May 20 when Princess Leonor will put an end to her time in Wales.
