After Kate Middleton stole the spotlight with her stellar appearance playing piano at the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, the video went viral and soon sparked all kinds of comments on social media. It is not every day you can see a princess in a television program of such international scope.
The Princess of Wales astonished many with her performance. Although it was not the first time we saw her in front of the piano, Kate delighted dozens with her musical prowess during a Christmas 2021 performance at Westminster Abbey. However, her apparent confidence divided audiences on social media – was it really her playing?
As the days passed, many would have questioned whether it is the wife of Prince William who played the notes that sounded in the video.
“I’ve played for three years. The piano is not easy. The way she was placing her fingers, it’s awkward. Sorry, I think he’s acting,” one Twitter user noted. “She played the right notes but not necessarily in the right order…”, commented another.

Others did not hesitate to defend her arguing that Kate has been teaching for years and it is not the first time she plays in public: “She plays very well”.
The justification for such a commotion would be very simple. It is unknown how many hours it took the Princess of Wales to record this sequence, but most likely there is a lack of synchronization between her movement in real time with the sound that was included in post-production. Thus, it would explain that although Kate Middleton did play, the image did not adapt to the ambient sound.

Kate Middleton’s dress for Eurovision
The doubt about whether Kate played piano or not has not been the last controversy of her participation in Eurovision. Her look has also given much to talk about, as some users on the networks pointed out that the mother of George, Charlotte, and Louise copied Meghan Markle, who wore a blue dress with one sleeve in the same tone as Kate’s, as she joined Prince Harry for the 2022 NAACP.
Although it could not be seen in its entirety, the design was romantic-inspired with an asymmetrical neckline, flattering draping at the bust and flowing skirt, created by Jenny Packman for a price tag of over $3900.
Prince William’s obsession with Meghan Markle is just fvcking wild.
Not his wife Kate Middleton copying Meghan Markle’s style AGAIN 😭😭
