After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales becomes the new king of England. But in social networks, the health of Charles III is in doubt. This issue is not strange for people who follow closely the steps of the royal family, but for others it is a cause for concern.
The reasons to doubt the health of the new King are based on several photos circulating on the Internet where you can notice his hands and fingers extremely red and swollen.
King Charles seriously ill?
Dr. Gareth Nye spoke to the Daily Star, and explained what is the curious disease that swells the fingers of the new king of the United Kingdom, 73 years old.
“Edema is a condition in which the body begins to retain fluids in the limbs, usually in the legs and ankles, but also in the fingers, which makes them swell,” the doctor told the media.
On the other hand, Nye explained that “Edema is a common condition and mainly affects people over the age of 65, since the ability to control fluids is restricted. To see if this is the cause, pressing on the swollen area for about 15 seconds would cause a depression in the area.”
Does King Charles III have arthritis?
Nye himself, who is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Chester, brought up possible arthritis “another common condition in the over 60s. It often affects three main areas of the hand: the thumb joint or any of the finger joints.”
“The fingers usually become stiff, painful and swollen and, although medications can help with the pain, the swelling can remain,” concluded Nye, who added that another less common option is a high-salt diet, which would cause the same effects.
