Spain’s royal family is following in the footsteps of members of the British royal family, who released their Christmas cards this weekend.
This Tuesday, December 12, 2023, King Felipe and Queen Letizia did the same, sharing their best wishes for Christmas and the coming year with an unpublished image of a very special day.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia’s Christmas card
The Spanish royal family wanted to share their Christmas greetings with all Spaniards, and a very meaningful image appeared in it.
It is a photo taken on the day of Princess Leonor’s constitutional oath, last October 31, when she turned 18 and took another step towards her future as Queen.
In the photo, King Felipe and Queen Letizia, along with their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, are elegantly dressed and smiling at the camera.
King Felipe is wearing a dark suit, Queen Letizia a blue dress by Carolina Herrera, Princess Leonor a white tailored suit by Sastrería Serna with the Golden Fleece in the lapel and Infanta Sofía a floral dress with a cape by Erdem.
The card bears the following message: “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024. We wish it with all our affection”. It also includes the signatures of the king, queen and their daughters.
The photo was taken after the swearing-in ceremony, which was a historic moment for the monarchy and the country, and before the luncheon in honor of Princess Leonor, which had some funny moments, such as when she tasted champagne in public for the first time.
Christmas card from King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia
This wasn’t the only family Christmas card distributed by the Royal House. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia also sent out a Christmas card.
Juan Carlos and Sofia shared a card illustrated with the painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and the same message as their children: “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024”.
