The return to Spain of King Emeritus Juan Carlos I is once again the subject of debate by the Spanish press, who have claimed that the former monarch intends to return home to celebrate his birthday.
Juan Carlos will be 84 years old on January 5, 2022 and according to what was published by the newspaper ‘El Mundo’, citing friends of the father of King Philip VI would have planned to return to Spain for that date.
Since August 2020, when the accusations about his finances were at their peak he left Abu Dhabi, in a self-imposed exile. Juan Carlos has always denied all accusations.
Recently, Swiss prosecutors dropped their investigation into allegations of corruption involving the king. The ongoing investigations in Spain into his finances also seem to be coming to an end.
Since then, there have been several reports that Juan Carlos is planning to return to Spain. The Spanish Royal Household has not commented.
