Just when it seemed that Queen Letizia and King Felipe had overcome the rumors about the crisis in their marriage due to an alleged infidelity, Spanish journalist Jaime Peñafiel returns to the fray.
Last year, Peñafiel published a book detailing the alleged affair between Queen Letizia and Jaime del Burgo.
Now, in his new book titled “Los silencios de Letizia” (The Silences of Letizia) which will go on sale worldwide on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, he promises to reveal even more secrets about the Spanish royal family, focusing especially on the queen’s alleged infidelity.
New book on Queen Letizia’s infidelity
As advanced by the Daily Mail, the book reveals that Felipe was aware that Letizia was cheating on him.
The alleged affair between Letizia and Jaime del Burgo, would have happened in 2011. Even the then Princess of Asturias had plans to leave Felipe and move to New York with her lover.
The book also reveals details of the previous relationship between Del Burgo and Letizia, which allegedly lasted from 2000 to 2004.
In 2012, Del Burgo married Letizia’s sister, Telma Ortiz, although their final separation came only four years later.
In another passage of the book, Peñafiel describes Queen Letizia as “cold, emotionally immature and passive-aggressive,” and claims that King Felipe’s family despises her.
Despite all this, Peñafiel does not predict a divorce between Leonor and Sofia’s parents.
Instead, he suggests that there could be an arrangement similar to the one established by Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia, where each leads his or her own life.
The book, which has generated controversy even before its release in other countries, appears to be a settling of scores between the 91-year-old veteran journalist and the Queen of Spain.
According to some insiders, Peñafiel was fired from a newspaper after the publication of his previous book.
This is not the only controversy that Spain’s royal house will have to face. In 2025, the premiere of “And Nothing but the Truth” is expected, an audiovisual production by Jaime del Burgo in which he will expose his side of the story about his relationship with Letizia.
Y nada más que la verdad. El libro que prometí, será en su lugar una serie de televisión de ocho capítulos, en formato película y documental. La produciré después del verano y podrá verse en 2025.
