The new coins with the portrait of King Charles III were shown for the first time this Friday, September 30, 2022, by The Royal Mint. The British coin manufacturer indicated that the 50 pence coins will be introduced in a few weeks.
The design of the 50 pence coins, as well as other commemorative coins worth 5 pounds is the work of British sculptor Martin Jennings.

The unveiled coins show the monarch’s face looking to the left side, the opposite side to the one that previous monarchs have looked at for centuries.
It is noteworthy that the new sovereign Charles III does not wear a crown, something that was the case with Queen Elizabeth II,
The British mint, The Royal Mint, will sell the new coins to collectors from October 3 and the 50 pence coin will be in circulation before the end of 2022.
The new King Charles III coins will circulate along with those showing the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on October 8 at the age of 96, said Anne Jessopp, senior advisor to The Royal Mint.
From the beginning of 2023, coins starting from 1 penny up to 2 pounds sterling will be minted, to be used daily and bearing the same image of Charles.
“Citizens need not worry about whether they have coins with the queen on them. We will keep them in circulation,” Jessopp clarified.
