Felipe VI and his eldest daughter, Princess Leonor, will preside over the ceremony for the presentation of diplomas at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza.
This event will mark the first direct contact of the Princess of Asturias with the military educational center, where she will begin her training on August 17.
King Felipe and Princess Leonor at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza
Next July 7, Leonor of Spain will have her second public appearance when she attends the ceremony where the new lieutenants will receive their offices, ending their training period and starting their professional careers in different units of the Spanish Army.
The King’s attendance at these ceremonies is very significant, as it allows him to establish close contact with the new officers and NCOs of the Army.
According to information from the Spanish portal Confidencial Digital, Felipe VI considers this contact very important, not only because the Constitution establishes him as Head of State and Captain General of the three Armies, but also because he himself feels part of the military institution.
In 1989, the king received his office of Infantry Lieutenant at the same General Military Academy of Zaragoza.
Every year, Felipe VI presides over several handovers of offices in different military academies, both for officers and non-commissioned officers, belonging to the Armed Forces.
The Princess of Asturias at the military academy
Princess Leonor’s entry into the General Military Academy will mark the beginning of her immersion in the Armed Forces.
From August 17, Leonor will become the “star pupil” of the General Military Academy and later of the academies of Marin and San Javier.
Over the next few years, she will study alongside more than 200 first-year students at the academy in Zaragoza and will share facilities with upperclassmen in Marín and San Javier.
This move presents a challenge in terms of protecting her privacy, as the presence of camera cell phones among students and civilian staff raises concerns about the unauthorized dissemination of images of the princess.
Princess Leonor’s military training will extend until 2027, at which time she will obtain the offices of lieutenant in the General Corps of the Army (Infantry specialty), ensign in the General Corps of the Navy, and lieutenant in the General Corps of the Air Force.
