Princess Leonor, with determination and commitment, is preparing to face the challenges of her military training and follow in the footsteps of her father King Felipe.
The heiress to the throne will begin training at the famous Military School of Zaragoza, ‘La Grande’. There, she will experience first-hand the military life.
When will the Princess of Asturias begin her military service?
According to the academic calendar published by the Ministry of Defense, the daughter of King Felipe VI will join the prestigious Army Academy on August 17, along with the other cadets who will begin their military studies.
On this occasion, it is very likely that the heir to the throne will be accompanied by her parents, as it is planned that the students will be able to tour the facilities in the company of their families during the first day.
According to information from Europa Press, from August 17 to 30, an initial phase of welcome, orientation, and adaptation will take place.
Subsequently, between August 31 and September 1, Princess Leonor and her classmates will undergo a level test to evaluate their skills.
The instruction and training phase will last until September 10, starting the first four-month period on September 11.
September 19 is reserved for the sabre presentation ceremony, a symbolic event that represents the awarding of the title of lady cadet.
During this emotional event, a second-year cadet hands over a saber to a first-year cadet, a gesture charged with great significance. The following day, the course inauguration ceremony will be held.
Princess Leonor to take the oath of allegiance to the flag
On a long-awaited date, October 7, Princess Leonor will join her classmates at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza for her first crucial military act: taking the oath of allegiance to the flag, marking the beginning of her journey in the military.
After finishing her time at the Zaragoza Academy, in her second year, Leonor will continue her military training at the Escuela Naval de Marín, in Pontevedra, where she will embark on the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, a symbol of Spain’s naval tradition.
Finally, in her third year, Princess Leonor will take the fourth course at the General Air and Space Academy in San Javier, Murcia, thus broadening her knowledge and experience in the aerospace field.
This military training has been designed especially for her, as once she ascends to the throne, she is destined to become a captain-general of the Armed Forces.
With this goal in mind, the five years of studies have been compressed into three, which will allow Princess Leonor to continue her university studies once she has completed her military training.
