A year ago, in the middle of spring break at UWC Atlantic College, Princess Leonor attended a solo engagement in Leganés. At the time, the Princess of Asturias drew attention to her teeth, as she was missing her canine fangs due to a dental problem.
The Spanish throne’s heiress recently underwent orthodontic treatment to address issues with her dental alignment, and the results have been highly successful.
Princess Leonor’s teeth have improved
After spending a year in treatment, Leonor now has a full set of teeth and she showed it last Saturday, April 8, when she made her first appearance after four months of absence. However, she still needs to wear orthodontics to complete the correction of some misalignments in her teeth.
The treatment was performed by a dentist friend of Leonor’s mother, Queen Letizia, and was carried out while Leonor was studying at a boarding school in Wales.
According to information revealed by the Spanish portal Vanitatis, Leonor made several trips to Madrid on Fridays when she finished classes at the Welsh boarding school to attend the appointment with her dentist. She also took advantage of her stays in Spain to reunite with her former classmates from the Santa María de los Rosales school.
What was the problem with Princess Leonor’s teeth?
The problem with the Princess of Asturias is that her upper canines were retained, the eldest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain suffers from agenesis, which is why Leonor had gaps in the area of her lateral incisors. Leonor’s orthodontist had to have them lowered in order to place sapphire brackets to align the teeth.
The portal Vanitatis consulted orthodontist Patricia Bratos, who assured that Leonor at the Princess of Asturias Awards: “She had sectionals on the premolars and upper molars, which are usually used to distalize the posterior sectors and make space for the canines. To bring the canines down into the arch, it is necessary to make incisions in the gum to access the teeth and, using different devices, to pull them to the place they should occupy in the arch”.
While Leonor’s treatment involved multiple trips to Madrid, Sofia’s treatment was a simple process of correcting the position of her teeth with braces made of sapphire. The Infanta Sofia had been wearing these braces since 2021 and recently had them removed, revealing a perfect set of teeth.
