Queen Letizia and Marie-Chantal will come face to face next March 29, when they attend the religious service to be held at Westminster Abbey in honor of the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away on April 9, 2020. Letizia and Marie have been estranged since 2018. But why do they get along so badly?
The bad relationship between Queen Letizia and Marie-Chantal began after the controversial clash at the doors of the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca after the 2018 Easter Mass between Letizia and her mother in law Queen Sofia. The dispute between the two was recorded by the media and the wife of Paul of Greece did not hesitate to comment on the event:
“No grandmother deserves this treatment. She has shown her true face,” she wrote on her Twitter profile on April 3, 2018.
That comment caused the definitive rupture between the two cousins-in-law. Although according to Spanish media they never had a very close relationship, although Marie-Chantal sent clothes of her own brand to Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, Queen Letizia never wore them and did not appreciate the gesture.
Next March 29, will be the day of the reunion, three years after Marie-Chantal’s controversial tweet.
