Within 24 hours of Queen Letizia’s arrival in Mallorca, Queen Emeritus Sofia left the island.
This gesture unleashed many doubts regarding new problems between the two women who in the past have even had public friction.
Since the wedding of Letizia Ortiz to the then Prince Felipe of Spain, there have been certain tensions between Queen Letizia and Queen Emeritus Sofia.
Despite this, both have tried to maintain a good relationship and have starred in some public moments in which they have been seen together and smiling.
Moreover, in the last joint appearances, it has been possible to perceive a greater closeness between them.
It can be said that, although there have been some frictions, currently the relationship between Queen Sofia and Queen Letizia is cordial and respectful, and both work together to maintain the image of the Spanish monarchy.
Queen Sofia in Mallorca
The emeritus queen’s plans were cut short when none of her relatives could agree on a long-awaited reunion in Mallorca.
The emeritus had hoped to be able to spend a few days of the summer with all her children and grandchildren, as in previous years.
However, this could not be and some made their plans separately and others, such as Juan Urdangarin and his sister Irene, could not attend for work reasons.
Why did Queen Sofia leave Mallorca?
Queen Sofia has abandoned her vacations in Palma, where she has been staying with her sister Princess Irene for a few weeks now, for scheduling reasons.
The truth is that her departure from Marivent practically coincides with the arrival of Queen Letizia and her daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia to Palma.
The reason is not the good or bad relationship, but to preside over the 30th anniversary of the death of His Majesty King Baudouin of Belgium, a significant event in which the “King Baudouin Memorial” is inaugurated at the Villa Astrida de Motril Residence in Grenada.
The Spanish press believes that Queen Sofia will return to Palma next Tuesday once this engagement is over.
But it does not seem that she plans to attend the traditional reception of the authorities on August 3.
It would be the first time that the mother of Felipe VI does not attend this event since she spends her summers in Marivent.
