Sarah Ferguson, 63, gave a recent interview to People magazine, on the occasion of the launch of her new book ‘A Most Intriguing Lady’, due out March 7, where she discussed what it’s like to care for Queen Elizabeth’s Corgis.
For Fergie as she is popularly known, the Corgis are national icons and it is her firm conviction that when the dogs don’t bark, it’s because Queen Elizabeth is passing.
Sarah Ferguson and Elizabeth II’s Corgis
Sarah, Duchess of York adopted ‘Sandy a Muick’ the two Corgis that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. Muick was purchased from a breeder and was named after the monarch’s favorite lake at Balmoral. Sandy was a birthday present from Prince Andrew and his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, to the Queen on her 95th birthday. The Queen accepted them with the commitment that after her death they would be kept by the Duke and Duchess of York.
In the interview, Sarah revealed that caring for the UK’s most famous pets comes with some stress.
“They are national icons, so every time they run chasing a squirrel, I panic,”… “But they’re total joys, and I always think that when they bark at nothing, and there’s no squirrels in sight, I believe it’s because the Queen is passing by.”, she has told People.
Where does Sarah Ferguson live?
Despite years apart, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson still share a house at Royal Lodge. Both maintain an excellent friendship despite being divorced.
