Princess Leonor had a bittersweet stay in Spain. Her autumn vacations coincided with the celebration of the Princess of Asturias Awards, an event where she gave a brilliant speech and where she returned to hog all the limelight, but a gastroenteritis overshadowed her last act in Cadavéu.
The heiress to the throne has already left for Wales to comply with the calendar of the UWC Atlantic College where all students resume their duties at the boarding school on November 7.
What happened to Princess Leonor during her stay in Spain?
Leonor’s stay in Spain, as usual, was under an enormous secrecy. The firstborn reappeared for the traditional concert of the Princess of Asturias Awards. There she wore fuchsia, leaving behind her childhood stage and showing herself as a teenager towards adulthood.
The Spanish press highlighted that Princess Leonor was undergoing orthodontic treatment to improve the appearance of her teeth.
The following day, Leonor faced one of her most important events, the one that bears the name of her title: The Princess of Asturias Awards. The eldest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain gave a speech, showing her full confidence in front of thousands of spectators.
“In a few days I will be 17 years old. And I assure you that discovering the work of our award winners helps me to better understand the world around us,” was part of the speech.
On Saturday, October 29, Leonor attended with her parents, Felipe and Letizia to Cadavéu, who was awarded as the Exemplary Village 2022. For this event the Infanta Sofia could not attend due to a gastroenteritis, the same disease that affected Leonor so she had to withdraw without being able to give her speech.
In this eventful visit, the princess could be seen her new piercing. The Spanish heiress joined the trend of ear piercings.
From that day on there was no more news of the heir to the throne. Thus came October 31, Princess Leonor’s 17th birthday, which was under the particular secrecy of La Zarzuela. The secrecy surrounding Leonor has led her to be catalogued as the most mysterious princess in Europe.
Now, we just have to wait until December 9 to have the princess back in Spain to celebrate Christmas with her family. For the second consecutive year, the traditional afternoon of kings at the home of her grandfather Jesús Ortiz, will have to be brought forward as Leonor will have to return to Wales on January 4.
When will Princess Leonor graduate?
On May 20, 2023, Princess Leonor will finish her International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Wales and will return to Spain to begin her university studies.
