October will be the most transcendental month so far in Princess Leonor’s life, as she will star in four key events that will consolidate her role as heir to the Spanish Crown.

The main milestone will be October 31, when she turns 18 and takes the oath of office before the Spanish Parliament.

Princess Leonor’s events for the month of October

The first highlight will take place on October 7, when Leonor will swear the flag as a lady cadet at the Military Academy of Zaragoza, as her father did in 1985.

The following day, she will go to the Basilica del Pilar, according to tradition. The ceremony will follow the same protocol as with Felipe VI, kissing the flag after swearing it.

On October 12, Columbus Day, Leonor will be in the tribune of authorities at the military parade in Madrid.

Zarzuela has requested special permission from the Academy so that she can travel from Zaragoza.

The Infanta Sofia will not be able to attend due to the school calendar.

After the parade, Leonor could be at the reception at the Royal Palace.

On October 20, in Oviedo, the Princess will present the Princess of Asturias Awards together with her parents, where she will give a speech, as in previous years.

On October 31, on her 18th birthday, Leonor will take the oath of allegiance to the Constitution before the Cortes Generales, in a joint session of Congress and Senate.

She will swear an oath of allegiance to the King. It will be broadcast on television and will consolidate her status as heir.

After the oath, she will receive from the hands of her father the Collar of the Order of Carlos III.

She will then deliver a speech and there will be a reception at the Royal Palace. Queen Sofia will be present, but not Juan Carlos I so as not to detract attention from Leonor.

As in the swearing-in of Felipe VI in 1986, Leonor will be sworn in wearing a dress suit instead of a military uniform.

There will be a family reunion at El Pardo Palace, probably on November 1, which will be attended by the entire Royal Family.

The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre will issue a commemorative 40 euro silver coin dedicated to Leonor, of which one million units will be minted.

Undoubtedly, October will mark a before and after in Leonor’s trajectory as heiress.

Her four main engagements, especially the constitutional oath of office on her coming of age, will strengthen her institutional role and her preparation to one day assume the Crown.

It will be the most significant month to date for the future Queen of Spain.
