With the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, Charles of Wales with 73 years became king automatically and his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles becomes queen consort.
It should be recalled that, during the dates of the monarch’s Platinum Jubilee, she asked her subjects to support both her son and the now former Duchess of Cornwall.
“When my son Charles becomes king, I know that you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as queen consort, while continuing her own loyal service,” the queen said in the Jubilee statement.

How old is Camilla Parker Bowles?
Camilla is older than Charles. The new Queen Consort is 75 years old and has not been easy to be considered part of the royalty, however, she achieved the Queen’s acceptance and gained the affection of the British people.
For many royal followers, Charles III’s first wife, Diana of Wales, remains “The People’s Princess” despite her divorce in 1996 and her tragic death in 1997.
Before Camilla, two kings consort stood out in the United Kingdom. Prince Consort Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, and Philip of Edinburgh, prince consort to Elizabeth II for nearly seven decades.
According to Daily Mail, “the former Duchess of Cornwall is likely to use the late Duke of Edinburgh as a model on how to carry out a supporting consort role.”
What does Queen Consort mean?
A queen consort is one who gains access to the title by virtue of being the wife of the monarch of the day.
According to the BBC, “It refers to the wife of a ruling king and does not have the same powers as a queen, who is considered head of state.”
Although with the same rank and status as her husband, she does not have the same power. Her fundamental role will be to support the king in his responsibilities during his reign, attend official functions with him, accompany him on trips and attend events where the king is unable to make an appearance.
