Princess Leonor, despite her future role as the queen of Spain, remains relatively unknown to the people of her country.
Queen Letizia has deliberately kept her two daughters away from public attention related to royalty, with the princess and infanta only appearing on special occasions.
This strategy has generated significant criticism and rejection from the Spanish public. Some Spanish media outlets have even chosen to highlight another princess who seemingly “outshines” Leonor.
Princess Leonor and Princess Alexia
This princess is Alexia of the Netherlands, a member of the Dutch royal house. As she reached adulthood, the Dutch royal family celebrated her birthday with official portraits, showcasing her elegance and seemingly overshadowing Princess Leonor, according to Spanish publications.

Alexia already held the titles of Princess of the Netherlands and Princess of Orange-Nassau. However, on her 18th birthday, her father granted her additional honors. It remains uncertain if a similar event will occur for Princess Leonor.
Like Princess Leonor, the Princess of the Netherlands also attended high school at UWC Atlantic College, a boarding school in Wales. They both graduated on the same day.
Alexia is gradually receiving more public exposure than the Spanish princess.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Royal House continues to protect and shield Leonor, who will celebrate her 18th birthday on October 31.
The Dutch princess also has in her favor her elegance which makes her look like an adult taking her first steps as a member of royalty.
On the other hand, some media outlets critique Leonor for looking “less regal” in terms of her fashion choices.
The Spanish newspaper “El Nacional” highlighted the recent outfits worn by both princesses. For instance, at a graduation event, Alexia stood out in her impressive and understated white suit, while Leonor wore a flashy fuchsia-colored ensemble deemed inappropriate for the occasion.
Unlike Alexia, Princess Leonor does not yet have official portraits available.
The only photographs released are those published by the royal house featuring her appearances alongside her parents.
Although Leonor is considered a valuable asset to the monarchy by the Spanish press, they have struggled to effectively promote her image, as the attention of the media and the public remains predominantly focused on Queen Letizia.
